A Second Class Subject?
In November 2023, Thinking Nation commissioned a white paper entitled "A Second Class Subject? Why Social Studies Gets Short Shrift in U.S. Middle and High Schools," published by the Education Week Research Center.

The white paper provides data to the anecdotes that many of us in social studies education have experienced for years. Frankly, social studies is not supported in the same way that the other core subjects are. This lack of resourcing only hurts education as well as our constitutional democracy. The conclusion of the report offers some ways that we can repair this problem, cultivate thinking citizens, and sustain our democracy.
